Ham tries out combination "couch" and life support system

Components of the combination 'couch' and life support system for a chimpanzee scheduled for flight in Mercury Redstone 2 are shown. The couch and its top cover represent the astronaut's couch and pressure suit combined. When inserted into the spacecraft, the couch is plugged into the circuit that normally would supply the astronaut's full pressure suit. The MR-2 flight was one in a series of flights in preparation for manned orbital flight NASA's Project Mercury program. (Source: www.schicklerart.com)
