Gemini 4 astronaut Ed White suiting up

Gemini-4 pilot Ed White is helped into his spacesuit by suit technician Joe Schmitt. White goes through a pre-oxygenization to purge his body of nitrogen before the flight. The pre-oxygenization, which began about 5:25 a.m. the morning of the launch, was necessary because of the planned depressurization of the spacecraft and extravehicular activities to be performed.
