Liftoff of Gemini IV

After an hour's delay (the erector temporarily jammed at a 12 degree angle to the ground), a Titan II carrying astronauts James A. McDivitt and Edward H. White II is launched on the Gemini IV mission.
Gemini IV lasts from June 3 - 7, and includes a significant "first": while the Gemini spacecraft makes its third orbit around the earth, Edward White opens the hatch and becomes the first American to walk in space. Gemini IV also marks the first time that the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston is used for a mission.
